A soulful documentary short about the struggles of Indigenous WayΓΊu transgender woman Georgina who lives in a small community in rural Colombia where water is scarce, and compassion towards a trans woman even scarcer. Despite the hostility around her, she gets up every day and sets out for water and to inquire about installing electricity so that she, too, can see in the dark.

MΓNICA TABOADA-TAPIA
MΓ³nica Taboada-Tapia is a Colombian director, producer, and screenwriter. She is the founder of the production company Guerrero Films. She has directed award-winning feature films and shorts, including Fidel (2012), Two-Spirit (2021), and Red Flag (2023), selected at IDFA, Palm Springs, and other international festivals. Her feature debut, Soul of the Desert (2024), a Colombia-Brazil co-production, premiered at Giornate degli Autori, winning the Queer Lion at the 81st Venice Film Festival and screening at over 50 international festivals.

Based on a short story by Christos Tsiolkas (Merciless Gods, 2014), this poignant short set in the β90βs follows a grieving mother trying to reconnect with the memory of her gay son and to forgive herself for denouncing him. Never moralizing or judging, the filmmaker tells a nuanced story of parallel truths and lives trying to hold on to each other across the divide.

JAMIESON PIERCE
Jamieson Pierce is an Australian screenwriter and director whose work explores the correlation of sexuality, desire and human connections. He has made five short films as writer and/or director, including Thomas Rides in an Ambulance (2021) and Strangers (2019). In 2023, he adapted a French novella Crazy for Vincent by HervΓ© Guibert into a screenplay which is in development with Aurora Films. He is also in development with Mad Ones Films on a historical miniseries about Australian bushranger Captain Moonlite and his outlaw lover James Nesbitt.

Set in the 1970βs LA (& inspired by true events), Dandelion follows rebellious teen Margaret (Ava Lalezarzadeh) who is kicked out of yet another foster placement and thus posing a real challenge to her social worker (Vic Michaelis) to find her a new home. When unsuccessful, she comes up with a desperate last minute solution offering Margaret a flicker of hope that running might not be her only option.

FIONA OBERTINCA
Fiona Obertinca is a Swedish-Albanian writer and director whose stories spotlight the lives of complex, resilient women who triumph against the odds, delivering narratives rich with both humor and heart. Growing up as a refugee in Sweden, the daughter of a single mother of four, she witnessed firsthand the harsh realities faced by societyβs most marginalized. Her debut short film, Sheptimi, a portrayal of her familyβs escape from the war in Kosovo, earned her the Bronze Prize at the Pixel Short Film Festival. Dandelion is her thesis film at the American Film Institute Conservatory and is currently being developed into a feature. (source)

EATING PAPAW ON THE SEASHORE (2022)
dir Rae Wiltshire, Nickose Layne | Guyana
A poetic coming-of-age short about two queer boys who are discovering their feelings and attraction to each other and trying to make sense of what that means for their family, community and themselves in their home country of Guyana. Papaws (papayas) become the symbol of their affection as they savor the forbidden fruit of their love and navigate their feelings in a homophobic environment.

RAE WILTSHIRE
Rae Wiltshire is a Guyanese filmmaker, storyteller and Guyana Literature Prize winning playwright whose work explores existentialism, sexuality, gender, and social issues. His 2022 short film Eating Papaw on the Seashore premiered at the Locarno Film Festival and is the first Guyanese film to address same-sex attraction between two men in a country that criminalizes homosexuality.
NICKOSE LAYNE
Nickose Layne is a Guyanese actor and filmmaker, radio broadcaster and the founder of Centre Stage Production. He is the recipient of multiple National Drama Festival Awards in Guyana and has performed and directed theatrical productions in Guyana, Suriname, Trinidad and Haiti.

CΓ©sar Award-nominated short about immigrant realities and life-changing chance encounters. Marina (Raya Martigny) is selling off her things, including a queen size mattress, as she is moving back to RΓ©union Island. Charlie (India Hair) just lost her grandmother and needs a new mattress. On a sunny Paris morning, a queen size mattress finds a new owner and much more. An absolute must see.

Her CΓ©sar Award-nominated short Queen Size (2023) starring the magnificent duo India Hair and Raya Martigny, was developed into a feature film, Les Matins Merveilleux (2025), to be released in 2026.
